History

THE BEGINNINGS

Eastland Compounding began life in Middleton, North Manchester, and the home of British Vita for over 40 years. During the sixties, British Vita developed their rubber moulding capability. This was followed by the purchase of ‘The Stalybridge Rubber Company’ which resulted in an ever-increasing demand for rubber compounds.

To supply this demand British Vita installed a rubber compounding factory in Middleton which they named Vitacom. The facility grew rapidly and soon extra capacity was required. In 1969 this was realised by the purchase of ‘British Recovered Rubber’ who were based at the current home of Eastland Compounding in Clayton Manchester.

INVESTMENT IN VITACOM

A large capital redevelopment plan was implemented at Clayton, which then rivalled Middleton for capacity. This resulted in the Clayton site becoming the Head Office for Vitacom

British Vita continued with their strategy of concentrating on their core business which did not include Vitacom. This prompted discussions for a Management Buy-Out of Vitacom.

WELCOME TO EASTLAND COMPOUNDING

E3g Ltd purchased Vitacom in November 2001. The name of the new company – Eastland Compounding – was selected by the staff to reflect the rapidly developing area of Manchester which includes; The Etihad football Stadium home to Manchester City – a legacy from the Commonwealth Games,  the Sports City Complex including the National Cycling Centre Velodrome and the BMX Centre – a beacon of excellence in the area.

A TIME OF INVESTMENT AND IMPROVEMENT

Following the formation of Eastland Compounding, production has been consolidated at the Clayton site.

A major capital expenditure programme has resulted in three computer controlled mixing lines with intermeshing and tangential capability all automatically bulk fed including inline straining capabilities. To further improve the Clayton site, a 14,000ft2 warehouse was constructed.

Eastland Compounding have worked continuously to improve quality in all areas of the company and in 2002 accreditation was gained to ISO9001. In 2005 the automotive standard TS16949 was achieved making Eastland Compounding the only current British independent compounder to hold this certification.

Eastland Compounding has worked to the Health and Safety standard ISO18001 since 2005.

Looking forward, Eastland Compounding is currently working towards attaining accreditation to ISO14001, the Environmental Management Standard.
