THE BEGINNINGS

Eastland Compounding began life in Middleton, North Manchester, and the home of British Vita for over 40 years. During the sixties, British Vita developed their rubber moulding capability. This was followed by the purchase of ‘The Stalybridge Rubber Company’ which resulted in an ever-increasing demand for rubber compounds. To supply this demand British Vita installed a rubber compounding factory in Middleton which they named Vitacom. The facility grew rapidly and soon extra capacity was required. In 1969 this was realised by the purchase of ‘British Recovered Rubber’ who were based at the current home of Eastland Compounding in Clayton Manchester.

INVESTMENT IN VITACOM

A large capital redevelopment plan was implemented at Clayton, which then rivalled Middleton for capacity. This resulted in the Clayton site becoming the Head Office for VitacomBritish Vita continued with their strategy of concentrating on their core business which did not include Vitacom. This prompted discussions for a Management Buy-Out of Vitacom.
